Holly Greenhagen, owner (right).
Holly has been making clothes since she was 13, but she started
her professional life with a journalism degree from Northwestern
and eight years of wordsmithing at the Chicago Reader. In a late-20s
existential crisis, she decided to chuck her job for a stint at
the Fashion Institute of Merchandising and Design in LA. After
interning with Richard Tyler and Max Studio and working as a technical
designer for Warner Brothers Studio Stores, she made the decision
to return to her midwestern roots. Holly loves patternmaking and
thinks of dresses as small feats of engineering. Her motto: "Vee
haf vays of making it fit!"
Gretchen Harris, associate designer
(center). A 2009 graduate of Philadelphia University's fashion
design program, where she was recognized
for having the Best Senior Collection, Gretchen can do everything:
come up
with the concept, make the pattern, and then stitch up the sample.
She's
also right at home meeting with clients. When she's not at Dame,
she might
be adding to the extensive list of movies she's seen (the girl
is a human
IMDB) or planning next year's Halloween costume.
Megan Rork, associate designer
(left). Megan came to Dame with a vintage
sensibility and degree from the Academy of Art University in San
Francisco. Megan's specialty is headpieces (fascinators, cage
veils, and
hats), and she's happy to design a custom piece to go with your
dress.
She's no slouch with dress design either; many of the finishing
touches
you see on Dame Couture dresses are courtesy of Megan, and she's
the brain behind a lot of our reconstructed vintage projects.
